About the site

Quantum Noise is my personal website. What do I hope to have here?

My goal is for this website to be my digital lab notebook. A place where I can share observations, thoughts, course notes and tutorials, cool things I see in the wild, and my opinionated takes on recent developments in science and technology (and other areas). The hope is to connect with people who are excited by that sort of thing and to learn from them.

The ultimate goal is to add my wrinkle to the uber intelligences which will emerge from this age.

About me

I'm Amir Safavi-Naeini, a quantum physicist and engineer working at the intersection of quantum optics, photonics, and information science. I lead a research group at Stanford (LINQS) focused on quantum photonic circuits and systems. Our work spans from fundamental explorations of quantum phenomena to the development of practical devices to form the backbone of quantum technologies. I'm particularly fascinated by the boundary between theory and application. This interest extends beyond my formal research to include emerging technologies in machine learning, device physics, technologies for energy, etc.
